The biennial Yachting New Zealand hosted Safety Inspectors Conference was held in Auckland on Saturday 29 November 2014.

The Worser Bay Boating Club, in association with the New Zealand Optimist Dinghy Association and Toyota New Zealand, is proud to announce that the 2015 Toyota NZ Optimist National Championships will take place in Wellington from Thursday 2nd to Tuesday 7th April 2015.

Nine sailors have been named to Yachting New Zealand’s new Aon Fast Track programme. The objective is to accelerate the most talented and dedicated 'up and coming' youth sailors to top international Olympic campaigners.The sailors were selected for Aon Fast Track based on several factors not the least of which is a string of exceptional international youth results.

Over the weekend of the 22 – 23 November Kohimarama Yacht Club hosted the Auckland Tanner Cup Trials. This year the trials were opened up to allow other sailors form out of regions to compete, to build fleet sizes.

Jim Maloney was announced the recipient of the 2014 Comworth Coach of the Year on 21st November at the Volvo Yachting Excellence Awards in Auckland. However, Jim was in Rio and unable to attend the dinner ceremony, so Yachting New Zealand had sailors Molly Meech and Alex Maloney spring a surprise on him – all caught on camera…

The Lawson’s Dry Hills New Year Regatta on Jan 10th and 11th 2015 is the “top of the South” premier keel boat sailing regatta.

Alexandra Maloney and Molly Meech have won the 49erFX event at the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Cup Abu Dhabi Regatta which concluded overnight in the United Arab Emirates.

Yachting New Zealand has honoured Chris Bouzaid with Life Membership confirmed at the 2014 Annual General Meeting and recognised at the 2014 Volvo Yachting Excellence Awards evening.

Just a reminder that online registrations for this years regatta close next Wednesday night. This early closing is to allow time to process the huge number of entries. Late entries are at the discretion of the race committee and will incur a penalty fee.

A handful of the NZL Sailing Team are in Abu Dhabi for the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Cup Final where racing is set to start on Thursday 27 November.

Kate Stewart from Wakatere Boating Club on Auckland’s North Shore has been named 2014 winner of the Aon Emerging Talent Award becoming the first female to take the honour.

The 2015 Laser National Championships, on at Takapuna in January, has attracted excellent interest from a number of international sailors and organisers want to hear from anyone who has a boat to charter.

The New Plymouth Yacht Club is looking forward to hosting the two major Starling regattas for 2015, with the Starling North Islands on 10-11 January, normal entries close on Friday 19th December, the NOR is on the regatta website.

The New Zealand Open National Teams Racing Championships are to be held at Bucklands Beach Yacht Club, in conjunction with New Zealand Team Sailing Association, from 13th - 14th December 2014.

The Tasman Bay Cruising Club nominated members Tom and Vicky Jackson for this Yachting New Zealand Cruising Award telling how the long-time cruisers involved their fellow club members in their latest journey which saw them voyage from 41 Degrees South to 61 Degrees North, then cruise amongst the waters of the Alaskan coast.
