32 attend Safety Inspectors Conference

The biennial Yachting New Zealand hosted Safety Inspectors Conference was held in Auckland on Saturday 29 November 2014.

“The event was a great success,” says Angus Willison, Yachting New Zealand Safety and Technical Officer. “At times there was spirited debate and there was detailed discussion going on late into the evening.”

32 Safety Inspectors travelled from as far south as Dunedin and as far north as the Bay of Islands.

David Abercrombie, Chief Executive of Yachting New Zealand made the opening address and speakers included;

  • Baz Kirk from Maritime New Zealand on the safety partnership with Yachting New Zealand
  • Sally Garrett from Royal Akarana Yacht Club on lessons learned from ANZ Sail Fiji
  • John Lidgard, Safety Inspector and well know New Zealand yachtsman, on the history of the safety inspection programme
  • Jim Lott, Safety Inspector, on international developments from a cruising perspective
  • Safety at Sea and Survitec on service requirements for various pieces of equipment  
  • Tim Clissold, Safety Inspector, on suggested changes to the Safety Regulations.

Appointed by Yachting New Zealand and the Maritime New Zealand, they can provide advice on the cheapest and easiest way to set up your boat’s safety equipment.  Yachting New Zealand and Maritime New Zealand appointed Safety Inspectors are directed by the Yacht Safety Inspectors' Manual.
