Registrations open for 2015 Toyota New Zealand Optimist National Championships

Issue date

The Worser Bay Boating Club, in association with the New Zealand Optimist Dinghy Association and Toyota New Zealand, is proud to announce that the 2015 Toyota NZ Optimist National Championships will take place in Wellington from Thursday 2nd to Tuesday 7th April 2015.

Planning is well underway, with a team of organisers putting in place all the preparations required to make sure sailors and visitors to Wellington have a great event.

Regatta chairperson Belinda Stanley said, "we are delighted to have Toyota on board as principal sponsor of the New Zealand Optimist National Championships. Toyota is now in its second decade of supporting this grassroots sailing event, which is a really fantastic effort.

We are also really pleased that Wellington City Council has agreed to support the championships, not only as a sponsor but also by helping out with the logistics of staging such a significant event.

We have a small army of volunteers beavering away in the background organising accommodation, sorting out support boats, planning the entire infrastructure and most importantly getting the coffee ready for the famous Toyota Café!

It’s going to be quite an event".

Some important dates to put in your diary are:

  • Regatta entries open online here 1 December 2014
  • Pre Nationals regatta at Worser Bay Boating Club: Friday 6th February to Sunday 8th February 2015
  • Regatta entries close: Friday 13th March 2015
  • Toyota NZ Optimist National Championships: Thursday 2nd to Tuesday 7th April 2015

The organising committee has been out and about asking the local community if they would like to rent their houses out over the regatta period. Keep an eye on the regatta website at optimistnationals.org.nz as we are updating the available houses list as they come to hand.

We look forward to seeing you all in Wellington at the 2015 Toyota NZ Optimist National Championships.
