    NZL Sailing Team’s Peter Burling is 2015 Moth World Champion after an outstanding performance at Sorrento, Victoria, Australia in a fleet containing some of the world’s most accomplished sailors.
  • Barfoot & Thompson NZ Laser Championships - Day 2 - The sea breeze kicks in

    Day 2 of the Barfoot and Thompson NZ Laser Nationals provided beautiful sailing, with the sea breeze slowly building throughout the racing. The first race started in about 5 knots with the breeze building to 8-10 knots for the second race and peaked at around 12-15 knots for the third with typical choppy sea breeze waves. All divisions completed their scheduled races with 2 for the Masters and 3 for the Open fleets.

    Peter Burling (NZL), who turned 24 on January 1, leaves Sorrento tonight with the McDougall + McConaghy 2015 International Moth World Championship title, hosted by the Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club (SSCBC) in Victoria.

    New Zealander Peter Burling continued his near-flawless run on Day 5 of the McDougall + McConaghy 2015 International Moth World Championship being hosted by the Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club (SSCBC) in Victoria. With one day remaining to finish the World’s off, Burling showed nerves of steel and control to score a second in Race 9 and then won the remaining three races sailed in shifty south-westerly winds on Port Philip. Winds ranged from 15-20 knots with puffs over 25 in the last of the day.

    Some of the biggest names in America’s Cup sailing are here at the McDougall + McConaghy 2015 Moth Worlds, honing their skills, team bonding and generally coming to grips with the exciting foiling Moth. America’s Cup team Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ) is no exception. Dean Barker, Ray Davies, Glenn Ashby are experienced AC team members. The 2012 Olympic 49er silver medallists Peter Burling and Blair Tuke were added to the Team this time last year, their talent and flare an obvious asset, highlighted by Burling leading these Worlds by a large margin heading into tomorrow’s racing.

    Be part of an incredible team that saves lives at sea. Coastguard’s volunteer Radio Operators work one shift a month on weekends and public holidays supporting the full time staff of the Coastguard Operations Centre. Shifts are usually 6 hours, generally held between the hours of 7.00am to 8pm.

The fifty yachts and 266 crew that participated were treated to the best the Marlborough Sounds had to offer in both weather and racing.

    Japan’s Hiroki Goto unusually showed emotion after taking out Race 8 in the Gold fleet Finals of the McDougall + McConaghy 2015 International Moth World Championship being hosted by the Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club at Sorrento in Victoria. Peter Burling (NZL) continued his good run with third place in a dwindling north-nor ‘easterly wind that petered out to 2-3 knots. Race officials abandoned further racing for the day at the conclusion of Race 8 for the Gold fleet.

    The Sydney Sailmakers crew of Nick Press and Andrew Stevenson are the 12ft Skiff Interdominion title holders for 2015 after leading the annual stoush between Australia and New Zealand from the get go to the end on the Sydney Harbour courses.

    New Zealand’s Peter Burling reeled off four straight wins to take the lead on Day 2 of the McDougall + McConaghy 2015 International Moth World Championship on Port Phillip in Sorrento, Victoria, sounding the warning bell for the other 159 competitors.

    Reigning Moth world champion, Nathan Outteridge (AUS) kick-started his defence in style, getting the early jump at the McDougall + McConaghy 2015 International Moth World Championship which started on Port Phillip in Sorrento, Victoria today. Outteridge, the 2012 Olympic 49er gold medallist skipper, fired off two bullets and a fourth (his drop) on the first day of the Qualifying series to take an early lead. Peter Burling (NZL), the 2012 Olympic silver medallist skipper, who fellow Moth competitor Tom Slingsby forewarned would be the biggest threat for the series some weeks ago, is in second place after scoring 7-2-1 results, while Outteridge’s 49er gold medallist crew, Iain Jensen, is third. The top three are each separated by one point.
