    Sport NZ has just released a new resource called the Good Practice Principles for the Provision of Sport and Recreation for Young People. Anyone delivering, working-in, or planning sport programmes that involve young people will find this useful.

    The dates for Napier's New Year Regatta have been set: 2nd – 4th January 2014. This regatta tends to be very low key in terms of advertising etc, but let us know if you might be keen to join us, and I will keep you up to date with info as it becomes available.

    Team Kiwi Gold (David Barnes, Rick Dodson and co) report on their last few days at the Sonar World Championships which came to a close on 22 September... Lots of rain and no wind stopped the Kiwi Gold Sailing Team getting any racing in on Saturday. Almost in direct reflection of the goings on In San Francisco with the AC34.

    Many of our yacht clubs operate slipways. Slipways, when not operated correctly can be dangerous. As a result of an incident on Auckland’s North Shore earlier this year, where three people were badly hurt, Maritime New Zealand have release a list of recommendations about safe management of slipways. Clubs should read the following story and ensure that their procedure take in to account the recommendations.

  • Preview: 2013 49er and 49erFX World Championships

    Marseille, France is the host venue of the 2013 Seiko 49er & 49erFX World Championships. This championship has the largest attendance for the 49er since 2001, with over 96 49ers registered. Additionally, there are over 53 49erFX teams registered, so the Mediterranean Sea will be a buzz with skiff sailing action. Catch all the action Sept 24-29 on 49er.org, including live broadcasts from the semi finals (27,28 sept) and finals (29, Sept). Both fleets face a similar challenge to each other. There are two clear favorites, and each will be chased hard by the pack.
  • Wellington Ocean Sports: Coastal Medic Course Announced

    Wellington Ocean Sports will be running a Coastal Medic course over the weekend of 16 and 17 November. This course offers participants the qualifications of Coastguard Boating Education Service Marine Medic (Coastal), NZQA units 6400, 6401, 6402 and Maritime New Zealand commercial first aid. It should be a prerequisite for anyone involved in ocean sports.
  • South Island Opti Racing Coaching Clinic
