Pakuranga Sailing Club looking to grow

Issue date

On Sunday the 22nd August the Pakuranga Sailing Club had their final races in the clubs’ winter series.

For those who don’t know where the club is it is situated on the Tamaki River downstream from the Panmure Sailing Club and upriver from the Bucklands Beach Boating Club. The club is sited on the eastern side of the river on a nice sandspit. Being on the river there is always a bit of tide flow and they only get a couple of hours sailing either side of high water. The club uses these tidal restrictions well in that sailing isn’t a full day event.

The club has been very welcoming to the Sea Scouts and young Mariners and benefits with up to 11 seas scout cutters, 15 sunburst and another mixture of boats adding up to an impressive fleet of up to 34 boats out on the water. This adds up to getting over 90 sailors and supporters at the club.

The club has a small core of 17 families and under the guidance of the sailing master Graham Crooks they are looking to grow the club.

Kim Admore Yachting New Zealand RSO says; “I had the pleasure of attending the prize giving and I can see that there is a big potential for growth in this fantastic little club.”

At the prize giving after racing the Girls from Oars Young Mariners took out the series with the Bucklands Beach Sea Scouts taking the next two placings. Competition is going to be fierce on the river for the next series.
