In an attempt to expand and improve the level of team sailing in the Southern Hemisphere, the New Zealand Team Sailing Association is holding the inaugural Pacific Rim Inter-Schools Team Sailing Championships, as part of the annual Inter-dominion competition. 

2016 420 Oceania Championships wrapped up yesterday with New Zealand locals Josh Berry and Henry Haslett winning six points ahead of Japan’s Kataro Matsuo and Takumi Miura. 

Team Vodafone Sailing have smashed the ANZ Sail Fiji record to become the fastest boat ever to sail from Auckland to Denarau!

Giacomo has also broken the race record with their time now going down in the history books for the monohull record. Team Vodafone Sailing holds the multihull record of 2 days 11 hours 31 minutes and 3 seconds.

Yachting New Zealand’s Volvo Sailing…Have a Go! schools programme recently wrapped up its 10th season! During the 2015-2016 season…Check out this great Volvo Sailing… Have a Go! video which follows Northern Region Instructor Reuben Corbett on a typical day the office!  

The annual South Island Regional Meeting is set to take place at the Christchurch Yacht Club on Saturday May 28th. The get together is a great opportunity to network with other South Island Clubs, exchange ideas and solutions.

Yachting New Zealand will be running seminars around the country over the winter to up skill our Race Officials.  These seminars are free for all Yachting New Zealand affiliated Yacht Club members to attend.  

The NZ 420 Association are very pleased to be holding the 2016 420 Oceania Championship, with a training clinic beforehand, in New Zealand at Auckland’s Wakatere Boating Club over 5/6 June. The clinic and regatta is on the edge of the waters to be used later in the year for World Sailing’s 2016 Youth World Championship, which is being hosted by Yachting New Zealand.

15 minutes long, the clip has been assembled by class expert and historian Gun Caundle, from photos collected while researching for his book ‘Our Secret Weapon’, a history and stories about the P Class. 

Yachting New Zealand is proud to officially announce the inaugural Oceanbridge NZL Sailing Regatta will be staged in February 2017. 

The second and final day of the first Para World Sailing equipment evaluation saw the Fraglia Vela Malcesine play host to more sailors testing proposed Paralympic equipment.

Sir Peter Blake Torbay Regatta has a new sponsor with the addition of Barfoot and Thompson coming on board for the 2106 edition of the regatta as a silver sponsor.

On the 4th June at 1100 hours, Anthony Leighs and his Crusader35 crew will be on the start line for the 22nd Royal Akarana Yacht Club offshore race to Fiji.

Two sailors have been announced today to join the New Zealand Olympic Team to Rio 2016 with Josh Junior named in the Finn class and Sam Meech in the Laser class.

Today’s announcement brings the New Zealand Olympic sailing team to 12 athletes, competing across seven events.

Recreational boaties and yachties visiting the Northland region are assured of safe access to popular anchorages, harbour entrances, bays of refuge and navigational routes thanks to the collective advocacy efforts of Yachting New Zealand, the Auckland Yachting & Boating (AYBA) and Northland Yachting Associations.

The Marauder 8.4 Class Championship will be held the 14th and 15th May. The races are to start near Northern Leading marker out in the Waitemata Harbour.

This year a large fleet of the popular Alan Wright designed 8.4metre Marauder yachts are entered for the competition. The event is being co-organized by the Marauder 8.4 Owners Association and the Richmond Yacht Club. Division 1 has many entered and should be an exciting race. Mahita’s skipper has never entered a Marauder regatta before therefore his crew is an unknown quantity.

Well, the incredible run of fine weather we have had has finally taken a small pause, but there is no pause to action out on the water!!! . The summer of 2015 – 16 will go down as the best ever at Wellington Ocean Sports, with the largest number of participants getting involved that we have ever had. Demand is high, but there are still places available on our up and coming courses. As we all know, in Wellington you can get good days any time of the year (and bad days too truth be known), and we have many exciting course scheduled over the next few months. Take a look!!!
