The first ever Nacra 17 World Championships is set to bring the top Olympic multihull sailors to The Hague, Netherlands next month.

This Learn to Sail Coach Course will be held at Maraetai Sailing Club on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11thAugust. 10th August 9am - 4pm 11th August 9am - 3pm

Reuben Corbett (NZL) has won the ISAF Grade 2 Pärnu Sailing Week in Estonia, defeating Marek Stanczyk (POL) in the final.

I have just returned home from my 100-day stint overseas, competing in seven events during that time in Oman, Europe and the UK. It was an awesome time made up of top quality competitions, solid weeks of training with foreigners, and some great times had with mates on the circuit.

Taking out today’s medal race at the 2013 470 European Championships in Formia, Italy the NZL Sailing Team women’s 470 pair of Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie have secured the Silver Medal. Paul Snow-Hansen and Daniel Willcox have finished 8th overall in the Men’s Open 470 European Championship – another strong result for this new partnership.

Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie will head into the final day of the 2013 470 European Championships in 3rd place and looking good for a medal, but with a challenge on to make it silver or gold. New Zealand will also be represented in the Men’s medal race with Paul Snow-Hansen and Daniel Willcox (pictured above) sailing away with a win today and lying 7th overall. The regatta, which has attracted a full contingent of the world’s best Olympic campaigners in the double-handed 470 class, has just one day to run in Formia, Italy. Conditions were light at the venue today and after a postponement just one race was possible.

WRIGHTY my world, my boats, and eighty years is the autobiographical story of Alan Wright, New Zealand’s most popular keelboat designer. Sam Meech has secured his first EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup victory winning gold in the Laser class at the 2013 Sail for Gold Regatta which has just wrapped up in Weymouth, England. The Jubilee Sailing Trust’s 55m tall ship Lord Nelson, which was purpose-built to be sailed by physically disabled and able-bodied people, is sailing around the world. This is the first time that an accessible tall ship has undertaken such a journey.

NZL Sailing Team sailors are in action at two separate European regattas right now and things are going well. After three days at the 2013Sail for Gold Regatta, the third of five EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup Regattas, 22 year old Sam Meech leads the 33 strong Laser fleet.

A stunning opening day of racing at the 2013 470 European Championships in Formia, Italy with blue sky, sparkling sea and a perfect breeze across the race course. Racing got underway in a stable breeze of 15 knots, building to around 18 knots.

Squealer became the third boat to be forced to retire from the Auckland to Musket Cove Ocean race when it lost its rig at 1756hrs yesterday. While we still don't know the circumstances of the dismsasting, we are pleased to report that all the crew members are safe, they have retrieved the rig, there is no structural damage to the boat, and they are currently motoring the final 48nm to the finish, under the watch of Maritime Radio in Taupo.

In exactly one year today, the Sail Fiji race organized by Royal Akarana Yacht Club will start from the Orakei Wharf on Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour. Scheduled for Saturday 7th June 2014, Sail Fiji will be the 22nd race to the Fijian islands for the club that is considered the home of blue water sailing.

TeamVodafoneSailing has finished the Auckland to Musket Cove, Fiji Ocean Race in a new best time of 101 hours, 5 minutes and 5 seconds. The trimaran, owned and skippered by Simon Hull, crossed the finish line in Fiji at 1905hrs today, after 1,150 nautical miles of sailing.

After a postponement due to lack of wind, Tamara Echegoyen of Spain swept her opponents away when the ISAF Women’s Match Racing World Championship 2013 finally got under way in Busan, Korea.

Yachting New Zealand would like to congratulate both Joe Butterfield (YNZ Life Member) and Adrienne Greenwood (former YNZ CEO) who were both named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list announcements for 2013. Joe Butterfield of Timaru was awarded an MNZM for services to health and the transport industry and Adrienne Greenwood of Auckland was awarded an ONZM for services to sailing.

Two of three New Zealand crews competing at May's IFDS Blind Sailing World Championships in Japan have returned home with medals. Together the crew of Kiwis were second best nation overall, again fuelling the proud history that New Zealanders carry on the global scene of Blind Sailing.

At 1542hrs yesterday Maritime Radio contacted the RNZYS to advise that Outrageous had withdrawn from the race following an incident onboard. We understand that one crew member had fallen overboard, and that another was injured while rescuing him, and that the first crew member was in the water for 7-10 minutes before he was retrieved.

It was a question of safety first for the 55' Equilibrium yesterday when they decided to withdraw from the race to Fiji, after the boat's alternator failed. As with many modern and highly technical boats, power is critical to running some of its systems.
