Olympic gold medalist Blair Tuke sailed away with the Supreme Award at the Konica Minolta CSG Northland Sports Awards held at the ASB Stadium in Whangarei on Friday night.

The first day of racing for the Sailing World Cup Final in Melbourne kicked off today with 17 New Zealander’s competing across seven classes from the St Kilda Sailing Precinct.

The annual Sir Peter Blake Torbay Regatta has wrapped up for another year, finishing off with an outstanding day on the water. Torbay Sailing Club put on a great show for visiting sailors who travelled from Samoa, Australia, Singapore and across New Zealand to attend the annual event.

In celebration of the 2016 Aon Youth Sailing World Championships being held at Torbay Sailing Club in December, Yachting New Zealand is offering the opportunity for the local kids to come and Have a Go! at Sailing.

Timaru Yacht and Power Boat Club will host the South Island P Class and Starling Championship from 3-4 December in an event which is shaping up to be a ‘must’ for young sailors in these classes.

The 15th edition of the Sir Peter Blake Regatta is less than two weeks away! This largest dinghy regatta in the Southern Hemisphere has a strong tradition of encouraging sailors new to the sport to come to their first major regatta and to have fun, develop confidence and be inspired to continue in the sport of sailing.

Tanner Cup trials for the Northland region were held on 19 and 20 November, with brilliant sailing conditions off hosting venue Onerahi Yacht Club seeing two young sailors earn the right to represent the region in Wellington early next year.

Queen Charlotte Yacht Club sailors Nick Williams and Nick Gardiner were honored with the prestigious WK Sports Team of the Year award at the 2016 Marlborough Sports Awards on November 21.

A fleet of fourteen boats turned out for the North Sails Hartley 16 North Islands at Lake Ngaroto in Te Awamutu. Good breeze on both days saw some extremely close racing and even closer finishes. 

Sixteen sailors took part in this regatta at Evans Bay Yacht & Motorboat Club.  The conditions were a light North to Nor-east winds with lots of blank spots making it a very challenging course for all competitors.

Four Hansa 303s turned out for the Sailability Regatta at Lake Ngaroto in Te Awamutu on 12-13 November. There was plenty of wind over the two-day regatta which is always good at Ngaroto.

A youth training clinic is being offered in the Bay of Islands from 13-16 December and is a great chance to try out youth class boats and spend some extra training time on the water. 

There’s just a few days to go until the 2016 Volvo Yachting Excellence Awards evening and we’re thrilled to be recognizing such an outstanding group of sailors, yacht club stalwarts, and emerging stars.

During the month of November the LiteClub has been visiting clubs in the South Island including Upper South Island Yacht Clubs. The Services of LiteClub for clubs is free, including the bulbs replaced with LED bulbs, insulating hot water cylinders and setting up recycling stations. One yacht club had retail value of over $1500 of LED bulbs installed for free.

Yachting New Zealand partners with Melanoma New Zealand to help reduce the rates of skin cancer in the country. Any boaties who are Accuro Healthcare members will get free access to a smartphone app so they can monitor their own skin health, and check for any changes in moles ahead of - and during - the summer boating season.

Northland sailors Blair Tuke and Chris Sharp have been nominated for The Northern Advocate 2016 People's Choice Award. Voting closes at midnight on November 26. 

Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) celebrated the success of the New Zealand Rio 2016 Paralympic Games Team by bringing together 23 of the 31 Rio 2016 Paralympians in the presence of New Zealand Prime Minister, the Right Honourable John Key. Just over 130 guests were exclusively invited to the celebration at the Langham Hotel by long-time PNZ partner, Adecco New Zealand this month.
