  • Wakatere Takes Home the Silverware in the MRX Youth Pathways Regatta

    Five crews from Wakatere Boating Club, Kohimarama Yacht Club and French Bay Yacht Club contested the inaugural MRX Youth Pathways Regatta. The regatta has been introduced to suggest a fun and practical pathway from youth to adult sailing for our young sailors, so many of whom drop out of sailing after graduating from the youth classes.

    Wakatere Boating Club has registered for Bart’s Bash on Sunday 21st September. This is a global event created to support the Andrew Simpson Foundation and to celebrate the life of Andrew (aka Bart) Simpson who was tragically killed during the last Americas Cup campaign. It’s also a genuine Guinness World Record attempt for the largest sailing event in the world and Wakatere is open to any class with a centreboard.

The honour is currently held by Team Vodafone Sailing with a time of just 5 hours, 44 minutes and 31 seconds - a big difference from the 18 hour record set by Cookie Stuart on Krisis in the first edition of the race.
