Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie added another race win at the 2015 470 European Championships in Arhus, Denmark and end the qualifying rounds of the six day regatta in 2nd overall just one point behind Israel’s Cohen and Maman.  

Scots College is seeking to appoint a Director of Sailing.

This will be a part time position of approximately 20 hours per week primarily between the months of October and March.

Auckland is known is as the City of Sails and nestled on the shores of it’s beautiful Hauraki Gulf is the Murrays Bay Sailing Club (MBSC).  With some of the best sailing waters in the country the club has a proud history and enviable track record of producing performance sailors. 

A new Coastguard Coastal Medic Course has been announced for the weekend of 29 and 30 August 2015. Coastal Medic is a prerequisite to the more advance Offshore Medic.  As well as its marine applications, this course exceeds the Health and Safety requirements of “two day workplace first aid”, so has many commercial usages. 

Thinking of doing an offshore next season??? Now is the time of the year to square away an Advanced Sea Survival Course. Wellington Ocean Sports next course will be running over the weekend of Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August 2015. 

Over the years building up to the 2012 Olympics I spent many months training and competing in Weymouth. It is fair to say not much has changed since then, it was all very familiar! The moments of de-ja-vu occurred in almost any and everything. From shopping for the ‘2 for $5’ deals at the local Asda supermarket, to grinding it out in the typical breezy conditions out in the bay. From sitting through the extremely long (30minute!) advertisements at the local cinema, to re-living the brutal tows to and from the race course each day. The pro’s and con’s of life in Weymouth still remain!

Pleasant Point Yacht Club in Canterbury is pleased to report on the progress being made towards the construction of a new ramp for the Club.

Contractor for the project, Fulton Hogan is due to start on excavation for the new ramp on the 1st of July.

Last night was the shortest night of the year...& with that milestone met, summer is officially coming. Diarise 26-29 January for the 2016 Bay of Islands Sailing Week. We look forward to seeing you there.

The Canterbury region recently acknowledged and celebrated the year’s achievements at the 2015 Canterbury Yachting Awards dinner held at the Cashmere Club on Friday 5 June. 

More than 30 were recognised at the presentation ceremony including category winners and all recent Canterbury Class Champions. Almost 100 people attended the evening, representing all of the clubs in the Canterbury region.

Attendance was good at the recent South Island planning meeting with more than 26 individuals gathering together at Naval Point Club Lyttelton on Saturday 6 June. 

An advance party of Emirates Team New Zealand crew fly out this week to head up to Southampton in the UK to begin assembly of the teams AC45’F’ in preparation for the first America’s Cup World Series event in Portsmouth next month.

Race Officials make a huge contribution to Yacht Clubs around New Zealand. Whether it’s helping out with local club racing or running an International regatta, neither would be possible without dedicated Race Officials.

Yachting New Zealand has partnered up with SportsLink International to provide exclusive Supporters Tours for Sailing fans for Rio.

SportsLink International have secured a block of 14 apartments, plus a number of rooms in a newly renovated 3 star hotel in close proximity to the Sailing Venue in Rio de Janeiro. 

The 3.7 Class Association have an unprecedented demand for second hand boats and they’ve asked for our help to spread the word. Their goal is to get as many 3.7s out on the water and racing as possible, and maybe you can help?   

Rutland Sailing Club, UK, who are hosting the 2015 ISAF Team Racing World Championship on 19-24 July, have issued a last call for teams and individuals to enter the competition. This is the first time that ISAF will consider entries from joint national teams.

In what has been one of the NZL Sailing Team most successful international regattas the team has won six medals at 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup Weymouth including one gold, four silver and one bronze. 

Yachting New Zealand is delighted to announce Finn Croft (Takapuna Boating Club) and George Gautrey (Muritai Yacht Club) as the recipients of the 2015 St John’s Rotary Scholarship.

The NZL Sailing Team is poised for multiple podium finishes at 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup Weymouth leading in three events and a further three crews in the top three with just the medal races remaining.

After a packed schedule of racing on the penultimate day fortunes for some and the usual suspects have risen to the top.

Fickle and changing winds at the 2012 Olympic venue hampered racing on day three of 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup Weymouth and only one NZL Sailing Team added a countable race to their results.

Paul Snow Hansen and Daniel Willcox (pictured©onEdition) above managed a 2nd place in the only race of the day for the Men’s 470 class and as a result they are now lying 2nd overall. 

New Zealand leads in three events with a total of eight NZL Sailing Team crews lying top five at the end of day two in Weymouth, England where the 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup Weymouth Regatta is underway.

Alexandra Maloney and Molly Meech (picture above © onEdition) were the stand-out performers on the team today and they take the overall lead in the 49erFX. Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie retain their lead in the Women’s 470; so does Andy Maloney in the Laser.

Racing is underway at 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup Weymouth Regatta and it has been a cracking day one for the kiwis in the Women’s 470, Finn, Laser and 49erFX events.

Day one produced sunny north easterly breezes and three NZL Sailing Team crews have the early lead in their events including Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie (Womens’ 470), Andy Maloney (Laser) and Andrew Murdoch (Finn). Meanwhile Alexandra Maloney and Molly Meech are lying 2nd in the 49erFX.

The NZCT South Island Masters Games is a nine day festival of sport from 26 September – 4 October 2015 in Nelson and yachting is part of the programme.

This week the NZL Sailing Team is in Weymouth and Portland on the southern coast of England where in 2012 the Olympic sailing regatta took place.

Fifteen kiwi crews are at the venue preparing for 2015 ISAF Sailing World Cup Weymouth Regatta where racing starts on Wednesday. On Sunday, after five days of racing, medals will be awarded to those who have performed the best in each of the ten Olympic classes being contested. 

It’s been nearly three years since we won our Olympic Gold medal here in Weymouth, although we both feel like it was at least ten years ago!
