  • 2016 Auckland Girls Championship Regatta

    Kohimarama Yacht Club (KYC) hosted its annual Girls Regatta on Saturday 19 March.

    This event is open to under -19 girls only. In fact all boys are banned from the club house while the event is on. The AON 29er clinic and Optimist training and they had to move down the beach and use the public change rooms. 

  • Jack Tar Auckland Regatta: Beau Geste clinches regatta title

    Beau Geste clinches regatta title after a superb final days yachting at the Jack Tar Auckland Regatta 2016

    Beau Geste have claimed another regatta title in style after a top class final day for Division A in Auckland. Helmed by Karl Kwok, Beau Geste won 3 out of the 4 races sailed today in what were fantastic conditions for yachting off the Eastern Beaches.  Beau Geste were sitting in second place behind Viento 2 after day one, but their 3 solid wins and a 3rd in the final race surged them to the top of the standings, and with 7 out of 8 line wins across the regatta – I don’t think anyone can argue their victory isn’t deserved. 

  • PLSC RSA Regatta 39th Edition

    The 39th RSA Regatta was held on the challenging waters of Panmure Lagoon. 

    They came from far and wide, Taipa to the North and Ohope to the South as well as Whangarei, Waikato and Auckland with one sailor coming from the UK making up a strong fleet of 41 Lasers split into 30 standards and 11 Radials. 

  • Jack Tar Auckland Regatta ready to hit the harbour for 2016!

    One of the country’s biggest regattas is getting ready to hit the water this weekend on Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf. The Jack Tar Auckland Regatta 2016, a join initiative between the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and Buckland’s Beach Yacht Club.

    A new boat being built along with a date change reduced the fleet, but the racing was just as competitive as ever.

    The Open Finn European Championships stalled on the fourth day with no more races on the board despite spending four hours on the water trying. With two days to go and a maximum of four fleet races and the medal race to go Josh Junior (NZL) leads from Zsombor Berecz (HUN) and Pieter-Jan Postma (NED) in the 90 boat fleet.

    With race four of the regatta finally getting underway around 3pm local time, only one race was possible for the 90 boats vying for the European crown in the Olympic heavy-weight dinghy.

    Eight North Island 420 teams tested their skills at Oceanbridge Sail Auckland, MBSC last weekend, the final regatta available before 2016 New Zealand 420 National Championships. The Oceanbridge Sail Auckland regatta offered a three day wind range suite of 4 - 22k and a no wind day four. This gave all teams the opportunity to test their set up, boat handling and tactical skills in every mode, using available tricky shifty sea breezes and excellent race committee management course setting.
