Measurer, Mike Judd, has given 40 years of service to the Optimist Association in New Zealand. Mike comes along to the National Championships and leads a team who check all the boats and gear for the regatta. He ensures that everyone is sailing within the class guidelines.
He has imparted a lot of knowledge to the Optimist sailors and their families over a long period and has contributed to the class in New Zealand.
The International Association, IODA, has recognised Mike’s contribution to the Optimist class and Mike was presented with a service award at the latest New Zealand International Optimist Dinghy Association National Championships held at Kohimarama Yacht Club.
Mike was overwhelmed by the award saying that he ‘had heard about these but never thought he would get one’.
Mike will continue to provide measuring for the Optimist Class – we hope for a while yet anyway!
