The Bay of Plenty Trailer Yacht Squadron was incorporated in 1976.
It is based in the city of Rotorua and operates from its marina in Okawa Bay situated next to Lake Rotoiti. ( see google earth- Lake Rotoiti). BOPTYS has approximately 130 members with various classes of trailer yachts. Trailer yachts are administered by the New Zealand Trailer Association. There are well over 160 trailer yacht designs registered with NZTYA in New Zealand.
BOPTYS is the second largest club and the largest in the North Island of New Zealand. We have a proud history with a proven record of champions in both provincial National and International events.
The Rotorua lakes are a national treasure, renowned for both their beauty and uncluttered sailing area. World class trout fishing in all our trophy lakes is easily accessible from our trailer yachts.
