Yachting New Zealand (YNZ) understands that Ministry of Fisheries (MFISH) intends to propose a new aquaculture zone for fin fish farming of 300 hectares, 10 kilometres off the Western coast of the Coromandel Peninsula (Proposal). Only one area of 100 hectares would initially be released for development, with the other two 100 hectare areas to be released after results of environmental monitoring are known. The proposed area and its surroundings can be seen in the maps attached. YNZ has serious concerns about the Proposal and opposes it in its current form.
