How did you first get into sailing?
I started sailing an RS Feva with my family at Waiheke Island when I was five. Once I was old enough, I joined Learn to Sail at Murrays Bay in an Opti. Watching my dad sail inspired me - I thought it looked super cool.
What is the best thing about sailing your class?
I like how competitive the fleet is internationally and the extremely high level of racing. I also enjoy the physical challenge of the ILCA 6 and that it's an Olympic class.
Where is your favourite sailing spot?
Lake Garda - especially when the Ora breeze is in!
What is the proudest moment of your career so far?
Becoming under-17 world champion after an intense final day to secure the title. Looking back, it was amazing to see how all the hard work leading up to the event had paid off.
What are you hoping to achieve in the next 12 months?
To keep working hard, keep learning, and mix it with the world's best in my fleet.
What is your long-term sailing goal?
Winning an Olympic medal has been my dream since I was little.
Who are your role models?
My dad, Robert Scheidt, Marit Bouwmeester, and Tom Saunders.
What do you do when you're not sailing?
Spend time with my friends and family.
And your favourite food?
Mexican.
What is your dream destination?
I've been lucky to travel a lot, but I'd love to go to Croatia.
How have you been preparing for the Youth World Championships?
By spending lots of time on the water and making sure I feel fit and ready before I leave.
