Volvo National Sailing Day attracts potential new family members to Waiheke Boating Club

Issue date

Waiheke Boating Club was represented as usual by the Island Dinghy Sailing Squad down the western end of Oneroa Beach on Sunday 1st Feb. The weather was grey and drizzly but the water was warm and enthusiasm high.

Even oldies willing to give it a go

An Optimist and a Laser were on display but the new Sea Nymph sailing dinghy, generously donated recently by Paul Sinden, was a hit with the potential sailors, young and old. This craft now allows our coaches to take first timers out for a taste of sailing before they commit to their own Optimists or Lasers.

“We had a successful day with several potential new junior families interested at the display on Oneroa Beach,” says Rosemary Gibbons, “That is what YNZ National Sailing is all about.”

We have five qualified coaches and a squad of over 20 who gather each summer Sunday morning for training, followed by racing in the afternoon.
