Ports of Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta: A progress report as the time gets closer

Issue date

Ahoy Sailors, Please put Monday 27 January in your diary now as a sailing day!

It's Ports of Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta, and it's a great reason to stay in Auckland, enjoy the Anniversary Weekend celebrations, like The Laneway and Seafood Festivals, on Saturday and Sunday, and perhaps take some friends or family sailing with you on Monday.

The 2014 Ports of Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta includes:

•             Fleet racing in the Waitemata Harbour for all types of yachts

•             The RAYC's Harbour Challenge for skiffs and fast multihulls

•             Classic yachts and workboats in the Viaduct

•             Centreboard sailing at Narrowneck, Takapuna, Wakatere, Kohi, Northcote Birkenhead, and Tamaki Yacht Clubs

•             The Tugboat Parade and Race

•             Waka Ama Racing

•             Dragon Boat Racing

•             Stand Up Paddleboarding (new for 2014!)

•             Radio controlled yachts at Onehunga and Westhaven.

•             Sea Scouts racing and activities

As well as prize money (which we are famous for), we are also building up a prize pool from iconic Auckland businesses such as Rainbow's End and Snowplanet. If you are down at the Viaduct, make sure you visit the Maritime Museum to check out our trophy cabinet, which is on permanent display there. The trophies are worth over $80,000, and they are pretty spectactular.

Thanks! and remember that January will come around quickly, so put the 27th in your diary now and invite your crew to do the same!
