New Plymouth OptiSail enjoys great conditions

Issue date

Hot weather and great winds greeted the 20 sailors involved in this year’s three day Optisail live in camp hosted by New Plymouth Yacht Club.

The camp included a Destination Sail which saw the sailors get out to the Sugar Loaf Islands off the Taranaki coast to see the bottom through crystal clear water, and plenty of seals.

The night sail is always a highlight and with a gentle breeze the sailors had a great experience sailing in the dark with glow sticks attached to their life jackets.

A further destination sail up the coast to the wind wand off New Plymouth city had plenty of spectators on the foreshore watching, this mixed with lots of games both on and off the water made it a great camp.

As usual the food is always a winner at the camps and the NPYC group did a great job, as did some of the local starling sailors who were able to get their first taste of coaching over the three days.
