With the summer approaching it is a good time of year to look at your yacht’s safety gear.

The elusive match point for Emirtates Team New Zealand was again out of reach in San Francisco today.

Here’s a look at the up-coming sailing related events around the country for the next couple of weeks. See the YNZ on-line calendar for full details of these events and those on beyond that.

YNZ has issued an amendment to the YNZ Safety Regulations of Sailing 2013-2016. They are as follows:

On the eve of the 17th 49er World Championship and 1st ever 49erFX World Championship, the city of Marseille eagerly anticipates a great battle.

Rules Forum with Doug Elder Thursday night YNZ hosted a rules forum with Doug Elder. The evening discussion was as a fantastic opportunity for the group of coaches and sailors to discuss some common rule breaches and get an insight into what the Judges are looking for when on the water.

Emirates Team New Zealand pulled off a great last leg in race 11 of the America’s Cup match, fighting off determined Oracle attacks both up and downwind to finish 15 seconds ahead.

The up-coming 2013 49er and 49erFX World Championships will feature five New Zealand entries including Olympic silver medallists Peter Burling and Blair Tuke; racing starts next Tuesday, 24th September and runs over six days in Marseille, France.

The wind won the day at San Francisco when Day 7 racing of 34th America's Cup was postponed until tomorrow. With an ebb tide of a strong 2.7 knots the wind limit at the start time was 20.3 knots.

Pleasant Point Yacht Club opened its 2013/2014 season on Saturday 14th of August at its new home in the South New Brighton Domain, running three races for their fleet of yachts.

2013 marks the 15th annual running of the Auckland On Water Boat Show (formerly the Auckland International Boat Show). Held in Auckland’s magnificent Viaduct Harbour over four days, this is New Zealand’s largest on-water boat show.

Emirates Team New Zealand won both races against Oracle on San Francisco Bay today and now has six points from seven races.

Marseille, France is the host venue of the 2013 Seiko 49er & 49erFX World Championships. This championship has the largest attendance for the 49er since 2001, with over 96 49ers registered. Additionally, there are over 53 49erFX teams registered, so the Mediterranean Sea will be a buzz with skiff sailing action. Catch all the action Sept 24-29 on 49er.org, including live broadcasts from the semi finals (27,28 sept) and finals (29, Sept). Both fleets face a similar challenge to each other. There are two clear favorites, and each will be chased hard by the pack.

Wellington Ocean Sports will be running a Coastal Medic course over the weekend of 16 and 17 November. This course offers participants the qualifications of Coastguard Boating Education Service Marine Medic (Coastal), NZQA units 6400, 6401, 6402 and Maritime New Zealand commercial first aid. It should be a prerequisite for anyone involved in ocean sports.

A South Island Opti Racing coaching clinic is planned for 18th to 22nd December 2013. The four day camp will be held at Wainui YMCA on Akaroa Harbour and is designed for sailors who have sailed in a major South Island regatta in either the green or open fleet.

Yachting New Zealand is offering to tender an ex Volvo Sailing... Have A Go! RIB. The RIB is an Aquapro Sportmaster 1101, 3.4m long beach trolley and oars included.

WOW!... What an amazing experience the past month training and racing the AC45 catamarans in San Francisco has been! I learned so much in a range of areas including being in a team environment, boat work (which there was plenty of on an AC45!), team logistics, how to cook a meal for 7 guys in their 20’s (not easy!), sailing an AC45, trimming a wing sail (which I loved to learn about), picking up tips from being surrounded by other top sailors and much, much more…
