Otago yachting man passes: Darcy Price

Issue date

Otago yachting identity and boat builder Darcy Price has passed away.

“Darcy’s prime era was the 60s and 70s and a bit in the early 80’s, during which time he built something like 39 yachts which all were raced then changed hands and became part of the local fleet or ended up in the likes of Bluff (where I was a kid at the time) and elsewhere,” says Otago RSO Graeme Wall.

“Darcy was prolific in the X and R classes but also built P class, Idle along class, Javelins, Noelex 22 and Z class.”

Darcy was 79 years, passed away last Friday evening in Ranfurly Hospital – having moved up to Naseby a few years back with his wife – Moreen.  He is also survived by his children, Joanne and David, Darlene, Phillippa, Chris and Sonya and plenty of grandkids.

Darcy was a member of both Ravensbourne Boating Club and Vauxhall Yacht Club during his yachting time. The Yachting New Zealand team sends our condolences to Darcy’s friends and family.
