    The 2016 European Championship from Barcelona, Spain marks a turning point between the 2016 quadrennial and the 2020 Tokyo Quadrennial.  As most of the Olympic fleet has been decided, many top team who will not be racing in Rio will take a break, or maybe just a breath, before reassessing their futures in Olympic sailing.  At the same time, for many teams this championship marks the beginning of their road to Tokyo, trying to get a head start on the group that will chase the next prize.

    At the suggestion of sailors and their families, Sailability Wellington held its first of many Annual Regattas from Lowry bay Yacht Club on the weekend of 2nd and 3rd of April.  All racing was in Hansa 303 yachts.

The friendly hospitality of BOIYC went down well with both classes and the visiting youth sailors attending the inter schools champs over the weekend. Sumptuous food, including some beautifully smoked king fish, provided the foundation for a healthy and family friendly apres sail environment

    Jack Ayers has outlived nearly three generations of crew members but that hasn’t stopped him getting out on the water.

    A sailor since he was five, the 100 year old had no difficulty taking the helm of Montego Bay III for the second year in a row, leading his crew safely out to Evans Bay and Somes Island in the annual Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club veterans race .
