Last chance to make savings with LiteClub

Issue date

South Island yacht clubs wanting to save themselves money and be more environmentally sound have a final chance to take advantage of the service provided by LiteClub.

LiteClub have implemented their programme in 1600 clubs nationwide, freeing up $9.4 million for community sport and preventing 9900 tonnes of CO2 from entering our atmosphere.

Now, after nine successful years, the trust have made the decision the LiteClub programme has come to its natural end. Their final club will be visited by March 31, 2020.

LiteClub have helped more than 50 yacht clubs save an average of $6000 per club simply by them being more efficient with electricity, water, and waste.

There are still 60 club visits left for the LiteClub team, from Wellington to Otago. They have a few remaining spots available for clubs in Christchurch and Otago so, if you know of clubs that would benefit from a visit, please let them know that now is the last chance for free efficiency upgrades.

LiteClub field teams make a two-hour long club visit and make on-the-spot changes, such as replacing old light bulbs with LED, supplying fridge timers, insulating hot water cylinders and pipes, installing water saving devices in taps, toilets and showers, and setting up sorting bins to make recycling easier. Their sustainability advisers also note larger opportunities to improve efficiency at the clubrooms and send a report with recommendations following the visit.

The best part about it: LiteClub is completely free for clubs – both the visit and the products installed. This is made possible thanks to a variety of funders ranging from local boards and councils to community, energy and gaming trusts – and Yachting New Zealand.

Earlier this year LiteClub published a new website providing lots of resources and information their sustainability advisers put together for clubs over the years. This will stay online, so any club looking for advice in the future can be visit here.

Staff are currently in the process of figuring out what the future of Litefoot will hold.
