Kerikeri tops 32 teams to win 2014 Secondary Schools Team Sailing

Issue date

The 2014 Secondary School Team Sailing Nationals were held at Sandspit Yacht Club, Algies Bay.

32 teams entered and were seeded into three fleets, to sail a series of Round Robins on two courses, with repechages available to allow teams to progress up the point’s ladder.

Racing started on Monday 28th April and continued until Friday 2nd April.

Monday started with a good westerly breeze up to 20 knots in the afternoon. The rest of the week saw light winds with racing being postponed on two mornings. However, all fleets were able to race at least two round robins, a total of 355 races plus appropriate repechages.

Results at the end of the regatta:

The top three teams from the Gold Fleet are invited to race against the top three teams from the Australian Nationals which are still to be contested in July. The top three girls’ teams are also invited to race against the top three Australian girls’ teams. This Interdominion Regatta is scheduled to take place at Algies Bay from 29th September until 1st October.

The New Zealand Team Sailing Association is very grateful for the enormous amount of voluntary work carried out by members of Sandspit Yacht Club, the 15 Umpires required to be on the courses all day, especially Jim Park and Don Le Page and the chief organisers of the regatta Ross Sutherland and Gay Noyer.
