Infinity Racing - Infinity at the Worlds

Issue date

Getting funding for sports is never an easy task and when faced with a shortfall leading into the ISAF worlds Infinity Racing had to change tack and come up with a more cost effective way to make this event still happen!

After contacting the organisers of the event, WIMRA and a friend in Ireland who we thought could help out, Claudia found a crew based in Dublin. Diana Kissane, Bella Morehead and Ellen Cahill. The next couple of weeks were then spent on Skype making plans, organizing an effective training plan for once Claudia arrived in Ireland and discussing on the water communication so we were all on the same page.

As it always does time disappeared far too quickly and it was time to get on the plane for the long journey from New Zealand to Ireland.

Once Claudia arrived in Dublin it was straight into training on the local waters of Dun Laoghaire. We were lucky enough to have Ryan Scott another graduate of the RNZYS youth training programme out to put us though our paces and provide a valuable training partner.

It was now time to head to Cork so we piled into Diana's Suzuki Swift with all our sailing gear and decided to take the scenic route on the way down so Claudia could experience a bit of the Irish countryside. It was a lovely drive down and once in Cork we stocked up with all the necessary regatta food and hydration and headed to bed early in preparation for the official training day in the morning. After a successful training session and a very official opening ceremony, including national flag hoisting and cannons on Tuesday we felt ready and rearing to go!

Day 1 of racing was a long day on the water with the first race starting at 9.30am, nine flights of races completed, plenty of fresh squally breezes and we didn't get to hit the dock until 6.30pm! It was a successful day on the water with 4 wins out of 6. We are feeling like we got our communication within the team working superbly by race 3 and are pumped for some more exciting racing tomorrows we are currently sitting 4th equal!
