Have your say: Code of Integrity for Sport and Recreation

Issue date

Sport and recreation are important parts of people’s lives in New Zealand -  we have some of the highest participation rates in the world and a global reputation for fairness.

We know that sport and recreation contribute to health and well-being and can bring communities together in a positive environment. But we also know that there are real issues with bullying, unfair treatment, discrimination, match-fixing and other forms of cheating.

These can have a negative impact on those involved and can lead to people dropping out of teams and missing out on activities they enjoy.

The Government is establishing a new Integrity Sport and Recreation Commission with the purpose of protecting and promoting safety, well-being and fairness of competition. It will provide ways for people to raise and resolve issues.

As part of this process, the Government has created a survey for all members of the sporting family - including those in the yachting and boating community - to have their say.

What is this survey about?

One of the tasks of the new Commission is to create a Code of Integrity for Sport and Recreation (the Code). The Code will help those involved in sport and recreation to have safe and fair experiences and will set standards for sport and recreation organisations on what ‘good’ looks like.

The Code will not be compulsory for organisations to sign up to, and when organisations do sign up, the Commission will help support them to meet those standards.

The purpose of this survey is to understand your experiences while taking part in sport and recreation and what you think needs to be included in the Code.

How to have your say on the Code of Integrity

The Commission wants to hear your views on what needs to be included in the Code.

You can have your say by completing this online survey.

To participate in this survey, you must be at least 12 years old or older.

You may also email them directly with any comments or feedback at enquiries@integritytransition.org.nz.

All responses must be received by 10 August 2023.
