Boating Education courses at Wellington Ocean Sports

Issue date

With our magnificent summer finally coming to an end it is time to start looking at getting into the nice warm classroom and do some theory courses during the long dark winter evenings.

This winter here at Wellington Ocean Sports we have a variety of Coastguard Boating Education courses that will make your boating next summer (and on those nice winter days) that much safer and more enjoyable.

So here is what is on offer over the next few of months…

Boatmaster Course

The Boatmaster course is a 30-hour, theory-only course providing in-depth knowledge of all aspects of boating safety.

Whilst this is an excellent stand-alone course, the Boatmaster course is also a pre-requisite for the 'Coastal Skipper' and 'Offshore Skipper' courses, the more advanced Coastguard Boating Education qualifications.

Our next Boatmaster course is being run on a Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5.30pm to 8.30pm starting 9 July and finishing on 8 August.  Here is your chance to book and get this great qualification.

VHF Radio Operators Course

The VHF Radio Operator course is a 6-hour, theory-only course including exam, providing the necessary knowledge required to obtain the "Marine VHF Operator Qualification”, which is the minimum level for anyone to legally operate a fixed or hand-held marine VHF Radio.

Our next VHF course is held from 5.30pm to 8.30pm on the 13th and 15th of August.  Here is your chance to book and get this highly recommended qualification.

Advanced Sea Survival Course

The Advanced Sea Survival course is a comprehensive theoretical and practical course required by crew competing in Category 1 offshore races.

This ISAF and Yachting New Zealand approved course is held over one weekend and consists of both practical and theoretical components.

On completion participants gain the Coastguard Boating Education Services Advanced Sea Survival Certificate, which is valid for 5 years.

Our next Advanced Sea Survival course is being run the weekend of 20 and 21 July.  Here is your chance to book and get your Sea Survival certificate during the winter and not interrupt your racing programme.

Coastal Skipper Course

This prestigious course and its qualification is a certificate of competency intended for anyone wishing to make coastal passages outside immediate harbour limits.

This is a theory only course of 45 hours in total covering Coastal Navigation, Coastal Weather and Coastal Passage Planning, with an exam for each module.

Our Coastal Skipper course for 2013 starts on the 19th of August, from 5.30 to 8.30pm each Monday and Wednesday evening through until October 7th.  Here is your chance to book and get this prestigious qualification.

Also, don’t forget our range of Ocean Sports that are available all year round.
