Yachting New Zealand’s hugely successful Volvo Sailing...Have a Go! programme kicked off last week and has already seen 207 kids Have a Go! at sailing.

For years the Auckland Sailing Club and Royal Akarana Yacht Club have played at different ends of the largest launching ramp in New Zealand.  Both clubs are located at The Landing Oakhu Bay and race on the same strip of water often sharing marks, but in the past that is where it has ended.  Sailors from both clubs return to their end of the ramp at the end of racing, with neither groups combining.

Sunday 18th October saw the opening of Royal Akarana Yacht Club’s 120th sailing season. Many fantastic announcements were made and RAYC has taken some great steps towards being a fully inclusive yacht club.

Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie have finished 4th overall at the 2015 470 World Championships at the regatta sailed in Haifa, Israel which has just wrapped up.

The NZL Sailing Team men’s crew of Paul Snow-Hansen have finished the regatta in 12th.

Haifa, Israel put on a tough challenge for the world’s best 470 sailors in town for the 2015 Olympic 470 World Championships, with light tricky winds resulting in postponements and a remorseless race course.

The anticipation is building within the New Zealand Paper Tiger fleet as the 2015-16 regatta season kicks off this weekend.

Dates and venues for the 2015-16season have been finalized and it all kicks off in Rotorua on the 17th of October with the Horowhenua Cup being contested at the Rotorua Yacht Club Sprint Regatta. 

Yachting New Zealand is pleased to name a full strength team of 14 sailors to compete at the 2015 ISAF Youth World Sailing Championships which run from 27 December to 3 January in Langkawi, Malaysia.

Emirates Team New Zealand are preparing for their first sail on the very waters which will host the 35th America’s Cup in 2017.

The Volvo Yachting Excellence Awards, to be held on 27 November in 2015 is yachting and boating’s big night of the year when achievements and service in the sport are recognised and celebrated.

Day two of racing has just wrapped up at the 2015 470 World Champs underway now in Haifa, Italy featuring both NZL Sailing Team 470 crews. Both managed to improve their overall standing after today’s racing, despite the day being described as patchy and challenging.   

Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have been named as finalists for 2015 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year. The winner will be announced on 10 November at the Award Ceremony in Sanya, China.

Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron Youth Training Programme Graduate Adam Minoprio, is a past ISAF Match Racing World Champion on the 2009 World Match Racing Tour but hasn’t sailed a regatta this year. Today he made an emphatic statement on his return to the helm.

Final results are in after four days of racing at the 2015 Yachting New Zealand Youth Trials.

Hosted at the fabulous new Murrays Bay Sailing Club house with racing off the east coast bays the regatta attracted the nation’s best campaigners in the youth classes all vying for selection into the 2015 NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team.

After a close and hard fought series of events in 2015, Auckland's Icebreaker (Aaron Young, Jamie Logan and Steve Mair, RNZYS) has emerged as the winner of the 2015 Elliott 5.9 Association Traveler Series.
