  • After another extremely light wind day in Marseille only the women’s 49erFX fleet at the 2013 49er and 49erFX World Championships managed to put any results on the board. In the 49er Marcus Hansen and Josh Porebski remain in 3rd with Peter Burling and Blair Tuke in 4th on equal points.

  • The America's Cup will stay in San Francisco. Oracle won the final race today. Emirates Team New Zealand started well and led around the first two marks. Oracle found  more speed on the beat, took the lead and held on to the finish.

  • The 2013 Yachting New Zealand Annual General Meeting will see changes to the YNZ Board of Directors including Rodger Kerr-Newell stepping into the role of President, and two new Board Directors.

  • The 2013 49er and 49erFX World Championships continued in Marseille, France, with New Zealand crews now sitting in 3rd and 4th in the 49er and in 10th in the 49erFX. Despite light and tricky sailing conditions of only four to five knots on day two of the six day regatta Peter Burling and Blair Tuke managed consistency across all three races sailed to lift their overall standing up to 4th drawing equal on points to team-mates Marcus Hansen and Josh Porebski who also produced three solid results.

  • Tomorrow is the day. The last day of the 34th America’s Cup. After 18 races the two teams are on eight points and tomorrow will race on San Francisco Bay for the 9th point – the one that will win them the America’s Cup.

  • The dates for Napier's New Year Regatta have been set: 2nd – 4th January 2014. This regatta tends to be very low key in terms of advertising etc, but let us know if you might be keen to join us, and I will keep you up to date with info as it becomes available.

  • Many of our yacht clubs operate slipways. Slipways, when not operated correctly can be dangerous. As a result of an incident on Auckland’s North Shore earlier this year, where three people were badly hurt, Maritime New Zealand have release a list of recommendations about safe management of slipways. Clubs should read the following story and ensure that their procedure take in to account the recommendations.
