Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have opened their 49er World Championship with a race win in the opening race of the regatta in Clearwater, Florida where three Olympic class sailing World Championship regattas got underway today in challenging conditions.

The Bay of Plenty Sailing Academy Trust launched four new boats on Tuesday, taking its school team sailing 420 fleet to twelve boats, and its total fleet to fifty-five.  Special guests at the launch were NZL Sailing Team members Tom Saunders and Sam Meech, both of whom did school sailing using the BoPSAT fleet.

Heading Offshore or just keen to improve your knowledge and skills? Boating Education have two Boating Safety Courses scheduled this month, both being held at Royal Akarana Yacht Club. 

The Knight Frank Young 88 South Island Championship was sailed for the first time on the waters of Queen Charlotte Sound at the weekend. The traditional home of the event has been either Lyttelton or Akaroa with the move north prompted by strong Young 88 fleet racing in Wellington. While the event did not live up to expected numbers it more than made up for this in exciting racing.

The final count-down is on to the start of 2016 Volvo Sailing & Boating Week. Sailing and boating Clubs across New Zealand, from Northland to Otago, are gearing up for the ten day celebration of sailing and boating.

Sails have been packed away, boats returned home, and the race village dismantled for another year. And what a spectacular Bay of Islands Sailing Week it was this time around.

Sunday 28 February is the day of the annual French Bay Regatta, a one day event fast becoming famous for its warm hospitality, quality race management, and superb sailing conditions, only 20 minutes from the CBD.

40 sailors from every dinghy club in Wellington attended the Wellington Optisail held recently at the Titahi Bay Boating Club.

A good turnout of young sailors attended the 3 day East Coast Juniorsail camp hosted by the Wairoa Yacht Club. A mixture of boats and sailors from Gisborne, Wairoa and Napier with the sunny days and a nice breeze the fleet set off for the shingle bank at the river mouth.
