- The Coastal Classic has always been known as a 'drag race' from Auckland to Russell, and over the years, boats from near and far have vied to break the record for the fastest time. The honour is currently held by Team Vodafone Sailing with a time of just 5 hours, 44 minutes and 31 seconds - a big difference from the 18 hour record set by Cookie Stuart on Krisis in the first edition of the race.
- Aspiring Paralympic Sailing duo Tim Dempsey and Gemma Fletcher have just completed their first international regatta. The pair started sailing together only 11 months ago, the only other regatta they have competed in was Sail Auckland, which they won.
- At the conclusion of Three days of sailing at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, New Zealanders Brett Willcock and Paul Francis have finished in 7th and 12th place respectively in a fleet of 18 2.4mR’s.
- Last Saturday's race was an example of two handed one design racing at its best. Great weather, excellent fleet of twelve Young 88s, tactical course, difficult sail choices, lead changes and close competition all the way through the fleet.
