Royal Akarana Yacht Club's Doyle Sails Cavalli Islands Race is a premier offshore challenge, taking crews on a 275 nautical mile round trip from Auckland to the top of Northland and back, with fully crewed and shorthanded divisions competing for the Yates Cup. The course pushes as far as Motuhakeke Island, out near Māngonui in the Far North, before crews turn south for the run home, with Little Barrier Island and the Poor Knights both rounded along the way. As the modern evolution of the club's classic Akarana 350, the race also drew strong participation from shorthanded boats honing their offshore credentials. It's a proud addition to RAYC's BlueWater Programme and Auckland's offshore racing calendar.
