Auckland Regatta: Get ready to race

Issue date

The sixth Auckland Regatta is on from 22 – 24 March 2013 - ditch the cruising gear and get ready to race!

What is it that makes Auckland Regatta great? Most importantly, it is an event for sailors, designed by sailors, and it gets better every year. For 2013, we are hosting the Pacific Keelboat Challenge, and four separate national championship events, for Open Multihulls, 8.5 Multihulls, Farr 1020s, and Elliott 5.9s. All up, there will be 14 racing divisions and one cruising division.

BRZO is entry #1
Congratulations BRZO, you are the first official entrant in the 2013 Auckland Regatta. Great competition is expected from the Elliott 5.9 class who are racing their nationals as part of the Auckland Regatta.

What's happening
Thursday 21 March: Registration 5-7.00pm, Briefing 7.00pm BBYC
Friday 22 March: Sailing from 10.00am, happy hours at BBYC, RNZYS
Saturday 23 March: Steinlager beach Party from 4.00pm, Motuihe Island
Sunday 24 March: Wrap up drinks/prizegivng from 5.00pm, RNZYS

Steinlager Beach Party at Motuihe Island
The band is booked, the tide is right and the barbeque will be sizzling! Anyone is welcome to attend Motuihe Island but this year, you will need to make own transport arrangements. The ferry service wasn't well used in recent years, so it won't operate this year.

Pacific Keelboat Challenge
The Pacific Keelboat Challenge is a great success story and this year there will be four overseas entries, from the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club, Sandringham Yacht Club, and Le Cercle Nautique Caledonien. They will take on six Kiwi crews in MRX yachts, racing for a model Waka Tua, which is a Maori War Canoe.

Admin
Provisional divisions for entry have been announced, and the Notice of Race and Entry Forms are up on the regatta website - take a look and reply to this email if you have any questions about your division.

Thirty Years Young
The Elliott 5.9 class is thirty years young this June and it bills itself as offering serious fun for a relatively modest price. Entrants in the Nationals, to be held at the Regatta, look to include Blurr, Ewok, Hobo, Zoot, Blownaway, Brzo, Brilliant, Icebreaker, Rapido and Frivolous Fish. We can tell just by their names that they are going to be great fun.
