You're invited to the 2012 Coastal Classic

Issue date

The Coastal Classic originated 31 years ago, as a drag race between Devonport Wharf in Auckland, and Russell Wharf in the Bay of Islands, 119 nautical miles up the coast. You could say that a lot has changed since then, but at the same time, nothing much has changed - it's still about the sailing, just like it was in that first race in 1981.

There are so many reasons not to enter - it's hard work - money - getting crew - taking time off work. But we can promise you, it will be worth it.

Simple does it

Division 8 is now a "No extras" division replacing the previous description of "Cruising", and it's the division you should enter, if you don't want to sail with, for example, a spinnaker or gennaker. Allowable sails are a fixed luff working headsail or storm jib and mainsail

Staying in Russell

Russell is a one of a kind place. Accommodation options available including lodges, motels, camp grounds, B&Bs, and holiday homes for rent, make the town a fantastic place for friends and family to spend the Coastal Classic weekend. Visit www.russellnz.co.nz for information.

Entering the race - new website!

Times have changed since the existing Coastal Classic website was built about 13 years ago, and so we are very pleased to announce a great new website that will be launched before this year's event. The new site is being built by BKA Interactive and it will make race management, especially entries, skeds and results, that much easier to operate for our team of volunteers. We'll email you on this address as soon as the site is live and ready to accept entries for the 2012 race.
