Yachting New Zealand Service Awards recognised by clubs

Issue date

Glen and Beverly Church of Stewarts Gully Sailing Club received their Yachting New Zealand Service Award in a special presentation held at their club this month.

The pair were amongst several other award recipients unable to attend the gala dinner in November, but celebrated in their own way with recognition from their club and its members.

Glen and Beverly have collectively given about 130 years of service to the Christchurch-based yacht club, filling roles in anything from coach and race officiating, to kitchen duties and club maintenance.

Glen has been commodore for more than one-third of the club's 72-year history, and is also active with the Canterbury Yachting Association and J Class model yachting club.

The Aon Yachting Excellence Awards recognise excellence in sailing as well as services to their club or organisation.

As the summer sailing season rolls on throughout New Zealand it's a timely reminder to think about who deserves recognition in your club.

Nominations for these awards will open later in the year and an announcement will be made regarding dates for the event.
