Nominations for 2022 Excellence Awards open

Issue date

From national accomplishments through to world titles, New Zealand sailors continue to excel which will make the job of the judges a difficult one when they meet to decide the winners at the 2022 Aon Yachting Excellence Awards.

Nominations for this year's awards have opened and there have already been a number of notable achievements in the nomination period (September 1, 2021-August 31, 2022).

Last year Emirates Team New Zealand picked up the big prize, the Orbit World Travel Sailor of the Year award, for the fifth time since the award was first handed out in 1963.

The awards recognise achievements at all levels of the sport, as well as the work done by individuals behind the scenes. That's where we need your help so you can let us know who you think is worthy of picking up one of the many awards.

The following award categories are recognised:

  • Orbit World Travel Sailor of the Year Award for the Sir Bernard Fergusson Trophy
  • Aon Male Sailor of the Year Award
  • Aon Female Sailor of the Year Award
  • NZL Sailing Foundation Young Male Sailor of the Year Award
  • NZL Sailing Foundation Young Female Sailor of the Year Award
  • Yachting New Zealand Coach of the Year
  • Official of the Year
  • Aon Emerging Talent Award
  • Lawson's Dry Hills President's Award
  • Young Leadership Award
  • North Sails Sportsmanship Award
  • Yachting New Zealand Sustainability Award
  • Yachting New Zealand Service Awards supported by Boating New Zealand
  • Yachting New Zealand Performance Awards
  • Yachting New Zealand Youth Performance Awards
  • Yachting New Zealand Cruising Awards

Nominations close on September 1, 2022, and can be done here. The criteria for each award can be found here.

The awards will be presented at a gala dinner hosted by Jesse Tuke at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron on November 18, 2022. Tickets will go on sale in September.
