Taking the next step to becoming a sailing coach or race officer is now much more manageable, thanks to Yachting New Zealand’s new-look online learning.
Previously hosted on the Bracken software management system, Yachting New Zealand's online learning platform called Embark has switched to a new hosting platform - Sport Tutor.
For users, this simply means even greater access to opportunities to learn and develop your skills as a coach, race official or club volunteer – allowing you to learn at a time, place and pace that suits you.
According to Yachting New Zealand’s coach development manager Kirsten Moratz, moving Embark to the Sport Tutor platform will ensure a more user-friendly experience.
It not only allows for a new, simpler interface but also provides users access to a wide range of related content and resources.
"This was a part of the extensive review of our coaching pathway programmes completed last year," Moratz said.
"Aspiring coaches and race officials will now find our online courses much easier to navigate - making it simpler than ever to log on and start learning."
Embark still offers the same depth and breadth of industry-leading courses, with programmes split into two portals - one each for coaching and race officials.
Work is already under way for a third portal focusing on club resources, Moratz said.
“The move to Sport Tutor has the added benefit of providing users with access to Sport New Zealand’s online learning catalogue. This includes resources both coaches and clubs will find useful – including information on child protection and safeguarding, inclusion, governance principles and many more.
“Sport Tutor also allows access to the coaching course calendar for in-person courses while the popular Coaching Yachting 101 course, which has been taken by more than 1000 people, is now free to users .”
This course is a prerequisite for taking any of Yachting New Zealand’s coaching courses.
According to Moratz, some modules will be continuously updated throughout the winter.

How to access the new Embark online learning platform
1. Log in to the Yachting New Zealand website
2. Click Transfer to Embark
3. Create a new account when first prompted on Sport Tutor.
4. Alternatively, you can go directly to the platform by clicking here or typing sporttutor.nz/yachtingnz into your browser.
