This is a popular regatta and all who have attended previously report back on what an enjoyable time is had. With all the chaos in the world you will be delighted to visit Lake Mahinapua and the unspoilt West Coast. You will note that the regatta is again earlier in the season than previous years and as always we hope for good weather.
We offer great hospitality in a stunning location. We have 2 days of racing - and being a long weekend will also put on some fun racing on the Monday. The racing promises to be enjoyable and we welcome all classes of dinghy and trailer yachts. If you are in any doubt over your boat's suitability for the regatta, please get in touch to discuss. Lake Mahinapua Aquatic Club (LMAC) is situated 2 minutes drive along Shanghai Road, (turning opposite the famous “Mahinapua Hotel”). We have a great clubhouse with recently refurbished kitchen facilities. In addition, we have views that belong on a postcard and on a clear day you can see Mt Cook whilst crossing the start/finish line. Adjacent to the club is the DOC campsite for those who wish to sleep under canvas / in a caravan or motorhome. For those wanting greater creature comforts there is good accommodation available in Hokitika to suit a range of budgets. The Hokitika i-Site staff would be happy to assist you. For those not sailing, there are some excellent walks starting from the lake, and the world famous West Coast Cycle Trail is 5 minutes drive away, with the “Tree Top Walkway and Cafe” 10 minutes drive away.
