A new initiative from the Waikawa Boating Club wraps a package neatly around their two biggest events plus two months cruising and is aimed at ‘out of town’ yachties thinking of visiting the Marlborough Sounds this summer.

As many as 26 of the more experienced young sailors from Wellington, New Plymouth and Picton attended a new spring Optimist coaching clinic held at the Worser Bay Boating Club over Labour weekend.

One of the key factors behind the success of New Zealand’s sailors at last year’s Olympics was the amount of time they spent in Rio leading up to the Games and it’s an approach they plan to take again ahead of Tokyo 2020.

One is the oldest trophy in international sport and the other one of the oldest in New Zealand rugby and history was made when they came together under one roof at the New Plymouth Yacht Club recently.
