180 from Albany High try sailing through Sailing… Have a Go!

Issue date

Northland Sailing… Have a Go! Instructor Reuben Corbett had a big week out at the Albany Junior High Camp at Shakespeare Bay on the Whangaparoa Peninsula.

Reuben and a few helpers, Woo Yeong, Sylvie Admore, along with Charlie  Baillie Strong and Kim Admore from Yachting New Zealand, guided over 180 students through a modified Sailing… Have a Go! program.

Kim had his 12.8m sailing Waka out on the water with half the students, parents and teachers while Reuben kept an eye on the six Optimists and the extra helper ran the Weta.

“We rotated the students on the water so they got to try the different boats,” explains Kim Admore.  “The feedback from the parents and students was fantastic and most of the students said – ‘sailing was the best of all the activities at the camp’.

“We had some great weather and most of the students got a handle on the sailing in the short two hour sessions.”
