Meet the 2013 NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team: Multihull Focus

Isaac McHardie and Micah Wilkinson have been selected to represent New Zealand in the SL16 at the 2013 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships on from 13-20 July in Limmasol, Cyprus.

Pairing up at the start of the season Isaac and Micah have gone from strength to strength demonstrating massive performance gains as they build their partnership, despite an injury set-back early in the summer when Micah broke his arm.

“They sailed a great final selection regatta at 2013 Oceanbridge Sail Auckland,’ notes Talent Development Manager Ian Neely. “The guys are now busy planning and preparing for the SL 16 World Championships on in Pyla, France in the lead-up to the July ISAF Youth Sailing World Champs.”

Isaac, who represents the Hamilton Yacht Club will helm the SL16 in Cyprus, with Micah, from Ngaroto Sailing Club as crew.

After the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships Isaac and Micah are continuing on to compete in the 29er Open World Championships on in Arhus, Denmark.

We put a few questions to both Isaac and Micah, here’s what they had to say…

A: Pasta

A: Sir Peter Blake, Dean Barker, Russell Coutts.

Q: What is the best thing about sailing your youth class boat?
A: Having the opportunity to represent New Zealand.

Q: What do you hope to achieve in the upcoming year?  
A: Win a medal at the ISAF Youth World Champs.

Q: How will you prepare for the Youth Worlds? 
A: Sailing, fitness and having a healthy diet.

A: 5th North Island P class,Phase 2 national champion,2nd sail Auckland 29er.

A: Mum and learn to sail in opti lake Karapiro

A: Mighty Angus burger

A: Lake Ngaroto
