Guidance

  • All nominations must be submitted through a Yachting New Zealand-affiliated club or class association.
  • Please provide enough detail to help the judging panel understand what the nominee has achieved and why they deserve recognition.
  • Nominations for the Sailor of the Year awards are considered through the Performance Awards and Youth Performance Awards categories - Separate nominations are not required.
  • Nominations close at 5pm on Monday 31 August 2026.

In recognition of exemplary and /or selfless service to the sport of yachting at club, class, regional and/or national level.
In recognition of outstanding sailing performance and/or exceptional achievement(s) in the twelve months ending 31 August 2026.
In recognition of outstanding sailing performance and/or exceptional achievement(s) in the twelve months ending 31 August 2026. The person or persons nominated for this award shall be 21 years and under on December 31 in the year of the award.
In recognition of an outstanding non-competitive voyage or cruise under power or sail or outstanding services to cruising.
In recognition of outstanding service by any sailing coach, professional or amateur.
In recognition of outstanding service in the community by any sailing coach, professional or amateur.
In recognition of outstanding service by any sailing race officer, judge or umpire.
In recognition of work done by a yacht club, individual or organisation in promoting, supporting or developing the interests of yachting in New Zealand.
In recognition of outstanding achievement, contribution and/or leadership within inclusive and para sailing in New Zealand.
In recognition of outstanding leadership shown by a young individual in the sailing community. The person or persons shall be over the age of 16 years and under the age of 24 years on 31 December 2026.
In recognition of outstanding sportsmanship of an individual or team who best exemplifies the spirit of sailing. The selection decision is at the sole discretion of the Judging Panel and will only be awarded in an exceptional show of sportsmanship.
In recognition of work done by a yacht club, an individual or an organisation, in promoting, supporting or developing sustainable practices in New Zealand. This may include environmental initiatives, operational improvements, education, waste reduction, conservation or projects encouraging more sustainable participation in sailing.
