FMJ 8th At Chicago Match Cup

Issue date

The Chicago Match Race Centre played host to the 5th stop on the Alpari World Match Racing tour. The regatta was run off the famous navy pier in conjunction with the Tall Ships festival. An estimated million people passed through the pier to take a look over the five day regatta.

It was a slow start for FMJ in the qualifying round getting to grips with the Tom 28’s and also match racing, something the team hasn’t done a lot of with America’s Cup duties and Extreme 40’s! At the conclusion of the round the score was two wins. Next came the repecharge for the bottom eight teams to fight it out for the four remaining spots in the Quarterfinals. Sailing well with few mistakes FMJ made it into the quarters.

Taylor Canfield chose to race FMJ in a first to win two matches format. It went all the way to the final match to decide the winner, but unfortunately FMJ couldn’t pull it off and were sent home. Canfield went on to win the Chicago Match Cup 2013.

The boys now head to San Fran to start preparations for the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup! After a disappointing regatta the boys are hungry for a strong performance in the Youth America’s Cup and will be putting in the hard yards for the next week to be the best prepared they can be to go head to head with the best youth sailors on the planet.

Stay tuned,
