- Samantha Osborne (RNZYS) retains the lead on day two of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron New Zealand Women’s Match Racing Championships 2013. As with the previous day, second highest ranked skipper in the event, Osborne won all of her six races by good margins. Osborne’s win against 2nd place holder Susannah Pyatt was by a margin of 26 seconds. Osborne commented, “Today we were more confident, more clinical; we learnt a lot yesterday and today we were able to capitalize on it. Today felt a lot more fluid.”
- Auckland Girl’s Regatta held at Kohimarama Yacht Club is just around the corner – mark 23 March on your calendar. Yachting New Zealand Regional Support Officer Kim Admore has been involved for a number of years, and describes the event as a lot of fun, “The regatta has really nice atmosphere around it and everyone who enters comes away with something . Highly recommended.”
- Northland Sailing… Have a Go! Instructor Reuben Corbett had a big week out at the Albany Junior High Camp at Shakespeare Bay on the Whangaparoa Peninsula. Reuben and a few helpers, Woo Yeong, Sylvie Admore, along with Charlie Baillie Strong and Kim Admore from Yachting New Zealand, guided over 180 students through a modified Sailing… Have a Go! program.
After three superb days of sailing in the Port Nicholson Regatta on Wellington Harbour the 2013 New Zealand IRC and PHRF keelboat champions have been crowned.
- Representing the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Samantha Osborne leads on Day One of the New Zealand Women’s Match Racing Championships 2013. Samantha Osborne, the second highest ranked skipper in the event with an ISAF Ranking of 95, enjoyed six wins in all of her six races, including a nail biting 1 second win over 2nd place holder Hannah Osborne (no connection).
- Portuguese PhD student Luis Silveira was in New Zealand last Autumn doing some research, and he would now appreciate feedback from kiwi boat owners (and yachties who do not own their boat but who rent or borrow from friends) to complete his work.
- Seven teams of New Zealand’s most talented female match racers are in the final stages of their preparation to compete in the New Zealand Women’s Match Racing Championships 2013 at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Teams from the Buckland’s Beach Yacht Club, the New Zealand Multihull Yacht Club and five RNZYS teams, including two representing the Lion Foundation Youth Training Programme, will compete this week for the Leith Mossman Memorial Trophy.
- This Learn to Sail Coach Course will be held at Murrays Bay Sailing Club on Thursday 21st, Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd March. 21st March 5-9pm 22nd March 5-9pm 23rd March 9am-4pm
- Isaac McHardie and Micah Wilkinson have been selected to represent New Zealand in the SL16 at the 2013 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships on from 13-20 July in Limmasol, Cyprus. Pairing up at the start of the season Isaac and Micah have gone from strength to strength demonstrating massive performance gains as they build their partnership, despite an injury set-back early in the summer when Micah broke his arm.
