Many of you coaches will have been taught by Peter in becoming a Learn to Sail Coach, qualified powerboat driver or windsurfer. I caught up with Peter to ask him about the changing environments we face as coaches and what makes a good coach.
- Yachting New Zealand is pleased to announce a new series of resources for clubs that offer of sailing opportunities for people of all abilities. Designed for sailing clubs and their volunteer force, it’s hoped that the use of these documents will help open up the sport for people with disabilities in the club environment.

- The latest of Yachting New Zealand’s poster series has been released: the 2013-2016 Paralympic Class Progression Guide. With information and images regarding the types of boats that feed the Paralympic pathway, and what classification requirements there are per boat.
- Bitter conditions meant the beanies were back out in Medemblik, the Netherlands for day two of the 2013 Delta Lloyd Regatta, round two of the EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup. After long delays and a late start to racing the NZL Sailing Team hit the water for racing and returned some more solid results.
- With no two boats being alike in the Auckland to Musket Cove, Fiji Ocean Race starting on 1 June, every member of the fleet will be racing the clock. Starting with the quickest, the fleet’s only multihull, TeamVodafoneSailing set the race record of 103 hours and 20 minutes two years ago, but conditions were light that year, and the big red trimaran hopes to shave hours if not days off its best time on the Musket Cove course in 2013.
- Sailing is a very adaptive sport that everybody can get something out of. Whether it is intense racing, sailing around the world, or just an afternoon picnic cruise, sailing is a sport to be enjoyed by everybody!
- This weekend (May 25-26) sees the first event of the 2013 Elliott 5.9 Traveler Series at Opua. The largest fleet for several years is expected with at least 15 boats and possibly up to 17.
