- The NZL Sailing Team are gearing up for the northern hemisphere season with the entire sailing team flying to Europe over coming weeks and a container of equipment already docked in Barcelona. Over the coming six months the calendar is full of Olympic class sailing regattas building towards the pinnacle event of the year – the ISAF Sailing World Championships, being raced off Santander, Spain in September.
- Auckland Secondary Schools Fleet Racing Regatta Thurs 6th & Fri 7th March at Wakatere. This regatta is organised and run by ASB College Sport for sailors in school years 9 -13.
- It’s time to enter your crew in the 2014 NZ Women’s Keelboat National Championships which will be held on the 5th & 6th April 2014 and will be run by the Royal NZ Yacht Squadron.
- The Kristin School team of Leonard Takahashi, Sam Hassall, Rory McCutcheon and Oscar Gunn have won the 2014 Harken Schools Regatta. 15 year old Takahashi improved his results on the water today winning the Gold Fleet with a total of 16 points, after qualifying yesterday in 5th place overall. “We had a difficult day yesterday but today the whole team improved and everything just went our way. All the competitors were really good and the racing was very close.”
- Just one week remains to get your entry in for the 2014 Hansa Class National Championships, to be sailed from 21-23 March at the Waitara Boating Club.
- Adam Middleton, Michael Cook and William Eastman sailing for Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club have convincing won the 2014 CentrePort International Youth Match Racing Championships. Over four days of racing the team dropped only one match in a dominant all round performance across a range of conditions.
- After three days of racing in the Line 7 Marine Port Nicholson Regatta Brian Cowper and his crew on Bacchante were crowned the winners of the Ross Telford Memorial Trophy along with winners of the National PHRF Division B Championship title, while Jamie McDowell and his crew on Black Diamond took out the National PHRF Division A Championship title.
- After two weeks of racing around the North Island against 22 other yachts Tony Wells and Rob Shaw have sailed Blink to overall line honours and 2nd place on PHRF in the Round North Island two handed race. Congratulations Tony on a fantastic campaign and a great result.
- The Qualification System for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competition has been released.
