- The Extreme Sailing Series' St Petersburg regatta kicked off on the River Neva today in typical fashion - tight racing on a confined and tricky race area where again consistency was king.
- The Young Challenger’s Cup is a youth focused sailing event. It involves yacht clubs from around New Zealand putting forward a team of four sailors between the ages of 12 and 17 to battle with 15 other teams for the Young Challenger’s Cup trophy.
- Testing conditions on practice day at the St Petersburg Extreme Sailing Series Regatta had crews battling massive wind shifts and a 4-knot current across the River Neva course.
- Emirates Team New Zealand chairman Dr Keith Turner says the team has now reached the point where it has the confidence to mount a challenge for the 35th America’s Cup. The team has secured sufficient private and sponsorship funding to proceed to the next stage without needing Government funding during this period.
- New Zealand Laser sailor Mike Bullot has ended his European tour on a strong note with a 6th place at Kieler Woche Regatta in Germany. The Olympic class regatta concluded overnight in Germany after five days of racing; Bullot (pictured above) was the sole kiwi to feature in the 88-strong Laser class.
- Nominations are now OPEN for the 2014 Volvo Yachting Excellence Awards and need to be received at Yachting New Zealand by 5pm Monday 1st September 2014.
- Yachting New Zealand’s bi-annual Commodores’ Conference had close to 100 people from 71 clubs attend over the weekend. YNZ Chief Executive David Abercrombie was pleased with the turnout and says the event was a huge success.
- On Friday 13th June friends and supporters of the 2014 NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team came together in Auckland for an official team launch ahead of the 2014 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships this July in Portugal.
- Effective immediately, clubs and associations with a valid certificate of affiliation to YNZ can access wholesale rates up to 40% off RRP for quality Zhik merchandise branded with your club’s logo, plus qualify for club sponsorship support of up to $4000 in Zhik gear.
