YNZ set up youth regional support plan

Yachting New Zealand have set up a Youth Regional Support Plan to help fund sailors to attend Aon national youth clinics in Auckland.

Half of the cost of an average return airfare from a sailor's respective region will be paid to each individual to attend up to two Aon national youth clinics in the upcoming summer season. Double-handed sailors will have to apply separately to both receive the funding.

"We recognise that it can be expensive to attend clinics in Auckland and value the experience these young sailors will have being involved in bigger fleets and hope this opens some opportunities for some talented young sailors in the regions," Yachting New Zealand youth coordinator Sam Mackay said. "They will get access to some of the best coaches in the country and get to know more sailors and build friendships within the youth sailing scene."

Clinics sailors can apply to attend any of the Aon National Clinics in the 2020/21 season. 

    A selection panel will consider the applications with the . Yachting New Zealand youth coordinator can assist sailors with finding boats and billets.

    Selection Criteria:

    Selection panel have full discretion based upon the following:

    • Previous results within the last nine months, including top-five results from national events, ranking events and any international events. Please include year, class, event name and placing.
    • Intended upcoming major events between September 2020 and June 2021
    • Training plan on and off the water
    • Include event date, event name, including location, class and your goal for each event

    Applications for the first clinic at Manly close September 6, 2020, and can be sent to Sam Mackay on sam@yachtingnz.org.nz 

    Applications for the December and January clinics will close November 30th 2020.
