The Awards are being held on the 17th July 2013 at Villa Maria Estate in Auckland.

Ms Whyte said she was thrilled with the quality of nominations received for the Awards.  “It’s fantastic to see the number of amazing women out there in the governance and leadership space,” Ms Whyte said. “We have also been humbled by the level of interest in the Awards evening itself - due to overwhelming demand we are pleased to say the evening has been a sell-out.”

But Whyte warned that New Zealand is a long way off achieving gender diversity in the boardroom. “The research shows that we are still languishing at the bottom of the table as a country when it comes to women holding positions at board level.

“While the Women in Governance Awards aim to recognise and celebrate women who are doing great work in leadership roles, Women on Boards is also dedicated to nurturing women coming up through the pipeline and giving them the confidence to step up,” said Whyte.

The inaugural Women in Governance Awards will be launched by Hon Jo Goodhew, Minister of Women’s Affairs. Other Members of Parliament have confirmed their attendance including Sue Moroney; Labour Spokesperson for Women’s Affairs and Tracey Martin NZ First Spokesperson for Women’s Affairs.

The Awards are sponsored by NEXT magazine along with Altris Limited, Trelise Cooper Boardroom, and Sport New Zealand.
