YNZ officer to visit South Island for safety forums

Yachting New Zealand safety and technical officer Angus Willison is heading to the South Island later this month to conduct a series of safety forums for yacht club members.

He will conduct forums in Picton, Nelson and Christchurch and topics covered may include the following: 

  • The Safety Regulations of Sailing and various changes, including safety category definitions and how to apply them
  • Implementation of categories 2, 3, 4 and 5
  • The Safety Regulations of Sailing and amendments since they were issued in 2021
  • Yachting New Zealand's work with Maritime New Zealand
  • How the trailer yacht safety regulations are set
  • Understanding and following sailing instructions
  • Skipper responsibilities if there is an issue (boat in difficulty)
  • What happens when there is an accident

There will be ample opportunities for asking questions on the night.

Sept 22: Naval Point Club Lyttelton (6.30pm)
